FastTrack: Retail Space Technology — A Studio course project sponsored by Advance Auto Parts speculating future technologies.

My cohort at NC State collaborated with the data science team at Advance Auto Parts to speculate new ways of implementing future technologies within their retail spaces. Our final concept resulted in AUTO, the store’s interactive, virtual assistant. AUTO powers Guestbook and FastTrack — two different services that assist team members when attending to customers.

100 Word Summary

We started by researching retail environments, machine learning technologies, and conducting in-store observations of existing stores. This gave us a foundational understanding of the subject matter as well as insight towards the problem spaces we might address. Our group focused on the “learner” persona — an individual who isn’t familiar with automotive maintenance but is interested in learning basic concepts to increase their understanding of their vehicle. We mapped Jenn’s experience to identify pain-points and areas to design for. To show our full concept, we filmed a short scenario video to capture the experience of using the in-store technology we designed.
