This work was one of the first projects I completed at NC State. The prompt of the project was to search the "oversized book" section of the Library to find topics of interest. Then create a new book by curating, reorganizing, and adapting the existing text and images found in the original books.
After finding the original texts to base our books on, we began experimenting with different page layout structures and styles for chapter pages, folios, and grid structures. As the structure of the book began to take form I started exploring how I could use color throughout the chapters to enhance the experience when reading the book.
In Motion breaks down different ways complex motions are illustrated and explained through text and images. I specifically look at photo sequences, lines and arrows, and annotated graphics as the main forms. In each chapter, the form is presented to the reader near its original form and then I breakdown how the form actually works as a method of explanation. The style of the book resulted in a clean and consistent look; each chapter uses a specific color to organize the information and provides color to the previously black and white images.
In our seminar class, which revolved around learning to design using new technologies, we learned many different ways to create in 3D. For the majority of the projects we used our book idea as inspiration for our 3D creations. The following are the 3D assets were modeled using Autodesk Maya.
